See the amount saved and the price after a percentage reduction. Enter the two values below. The result panel shows the calculation used, and the examples explain how to interpret it.
How to use the discount calculator
- Identify the values required by the input labels.
- Enter percentages as whole-number rates: 15 means 15%.
- Select Calculate and read the result together with its formula.
- Check the assumptions below before applying the answer to a real situation.
Formula and method
Worked example
A jacket costs 140 and has 35% off. Multiply 140 by 0.35 to find a saving of 49. Subtract 49 from 140 to get a sale price of 91 before tax. The calculator shows both the final price and the saving.
Stacked discounts apply in sequence
For 20% off followed by another 10% off, multiply the original by 0.80 and then 0.90. A price of 100 becomes 72. The combined saving is 28%, not 30%, because the second discount applies to the reduced amount.
Use the result from the first calculation as the original price in the second, or use our guide to successive percentage changes. Coupons can have product exclusions, minimum spends and rounding policies, so check the store’s actual terms.
Example calculations
| Original price | Discount | Sale price |
|---|---|---|
| 80 | 25% | 60 |
| 120 | 15% | 102 |
| 50 | 50% | 25 |
| 75 | 100% | 0 |
Input rules and limitations
Prices must be nonnegative and discounts must be between 0% and 100%. This tool does not apply sales tax, shipping or store-specific coupon rules. Those amounts must be added separately.
Display precision can be changed from two to eight decimal places. Intermediate values are not rounded, but the calculation uses standard browser floating-point arithmetic. Currency figures should be rounded according to the rules relevant to your actual transaction.
Common questions
Does the result include units?
The calculator works with numbers. Keep the same units for comparable quantities and add the appropriate unit when reporting the result.
Why does the calculator reject some inputs?
Prices must be nonnegative and discounts must be between 0% and 100%. This tool does not apply sales tax, shipping or store-specific coupon rules. Those amounts must be added separately.
Is my information sent to a server?
Calculator values stay in your browser. They are not submitted to the website’s server for calculation.
